University of Borås (formerly named "University College of Borås", Swedish: Högskolan i Borås) is a university college (högskola) in Borås, Sweden.[2]
The University of Borås has six departments. It manages education in Library and Information Studies, Business and Informatics, Fashion and Textile Studies, Behavioural and Education Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences. The campus is located in the centre of the city and has about 6,400 full-time students and 650 employees.
The University of Borås has the front edge on several exciting research projects, among other things 'Waste Refinery' and 'Smart textiles' which are preferential research and development areas in the region. Cloth which changes colours when the mobile phone rings, garments which measure muscular frequency and curtains which become lights in the dark are just a few examples of smart textiles. Furthermore, the graduates get jobs unusually fast. The fact is that the University of Borås year after year is placed in the top when the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education investigates the employment situation.[3]
The University of Borås offers degrees in Industrial Biotechnology, Resource Recovery, economics, IT, teaching, engineering, nursing and is also the main place educational place for librarians in Sweden. Doctoral degrees are awarded in that field (Library and Information Science) as well as in Resource Recovery. Due to the city's long history in textile industry, the school also has a good textile and fashion department. The textile department is situated in an old textile plant, and as a consequence have access to industrial machines for weaving or creating textiles. The University of Borås further offers courses in business law, design and management.
